Copal resin is derived from the copal tree Protium copal (Burseraceae). The word Copal is derived from the Nahuatl language word copalli, meaning "incense."
Copal was burnt by the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas, as a gift to the Sun. Copal is still sacred to the indigenous cultures of Central and South America. Copal is said to carry messages to the spirit world.
This stick form was made from Protium copal trees in Peru, blended with machilus dry bark powder.
